With the establishment of the traditional farm, society was changed forever. Many of the farms established in the Late Iron Age still exist today. In such places, history has been stored in the layers of soil beneath the farmstead – in the form of cracked brewing stones for heating water, broken farming tools that have been discarded, and various objects used for cooking or crafting.

Tuv Nedre in Sparbu is such a “farm mound”, where archaeologists have been able to trace more than a thousand years of continuous agriculture. Among other, we have discovered lead fragments from a forge, black soil from farming, a broken axe, a defective knife, a wood peeler, horseshoe nails, needles, and spindle whorls. More or less random relics that when put together tell the many different stories from everyday life on a farm.
